Scent Archive

Scent archive is a collection of 12 plants that grow on the island of Seili. It is a gesture of documenting their existence on the island. The plants have been extracted and distilled into elixirs and hydrolates. The invisible information that these plants conceal has been transformed into a liquid form, into a scent. In addition to this, Scent notes explore the essence of the scent in writing and the scent-chemical functions of the plants, the environment and their herbal medicinal properties.

Scent archive is part of Själö poiesis apothecary curated by Lotta Petronella. It is an installation of medicine, scents, environmental essences by Lotta Petronella and plant colors by Cecilia Westerberg. Apothecary is located in the former mental hospital Seili in the Finnish archipelago.
